I grew up in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and as a kid I always knew I wanted to make a difference. I truly believe my purpose is to help others and I feel teaching is a direct way to do that. I graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where I earned my degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Urban Education. My program allowed me to be in the classroom as a freshman in college.
I had hands-on classroom experience from the very beginning, allowing me to gain confidence in my teaching early on. I am forever grateful for the professors and classroom teachers who helped guide me through college. After graduation, I moved to Champaign, Illinois, where I currently teach first grade. I am passionate about creating a space where all students feel seen, safe and are excited to learn. By creating this environment, students are brave and passionate about their learning. The growth students make in first grade is incredible!
Every day has challenges in the classroom, but I am forever grateful for the relationships I form and the lives I get to touch each year. As an educator, I am always reflecting on ways to improve. I actively seek out new strategies and feedback to improve my teaching practices. One of my future goals is to become a teacher mentor. I would love the opportunity to support and inspire new and future teachers by providing insight of the highs and lows that come with the profession. Additionally, I hope to get my Master’s in Educational Leadership, allowing me to share my experiences and passion to help lead a school building. This profession has truly changed my life, and I look forward to what is to come as I continue to grow and help shape those around me
